Karen Zvulony

Karen Zvulony is the principal lawyer and founder of KZP Law.

Karen Zvulony is a well known and experienced lawyer based in Toronto focusing on Employment Law, Assessment Law (pertaining to fee disputes regarding lawyer’s accounts) and Civil litigation. Karen prides herself on providing strategic, cost effective and practical legal advice to her clients. In assessment law, Karen Zvulony is frequently sought out by clients seeking to dispute their lawyer’s bill and lawyer’s seeking to defend their legal fees. Karen Zvulony has extensive experience appearing at Assessment Hearings in Toronto and the greater Toronto area, as well as in Court on matters arising from retainer and fee disputes between clients and lawyers. Successfully represented a client at an assessment hearing who was billed $137,054.58 by her former lawyer. The lawyer’s bill was reduced from $137,054.58 to $6500.00 on assessment.
Successfully represented the above client when the Lawyer appealed the assessment officer’s decision reducing his legal fees by 95% to the Superior Court of Justice. The Lawyer’s motion was dismissed with costs payable to the client. Lawyer’s motion opposing Assessment Report reducing lawyer’s fees by 95% dismissed by Superior Court of Justice. An appeal to the Court of Appeal was also dismissed. Lawyer’s Appeal to the Court of Appeal Dismissed.
Successfully negotiated large increases to the severance package offered by employers;
Obtained a large and generous settlement for a long term employee fired for cause with no severance.
Appeared before the Ontario Court of Appeal and successfully argued against a former employer who alleged that Karen’s client breached the terms of settlement See Court Of Appeal dismisses employer appeal regarding alleged breach of minutes of settlement.
Represented a high profile doctor at trial who was sued by a competitor Trial decision Bernstein v Poon.
Appeared before the Ontario Court of Appeal and successfully argued against varying an order of a motions judge Motion to set aside motion Judge order dismissed with cost.
Successfully had a multi-million dollar lawsuit launched against her client by their former employer dismissed, with costs paid to the client.
Successfully defended a lawsuit started by the client’s former employer seeking substantial monetary damages and an injunction for breach of fiduciary duty, solicitation of clients and misappropriation of confidential information. The action was dismissed, with costs payable to the client by his former employer.
Secured a generous settlement for an employee who sued his former employer for constructive dismissal following changes to the terms and conditions of his employment.
Accomplished a large payout for an employee that was fired and whose employer refused to abide by the terms in the employee’s employment contract regarding termination.
Successfully defended a motion to strike a statement of claim for disclosing no cause of action Motion to strike Claim dismissed with costs.
Successfully appealed a trial decision arising from a breach of contract. The trial Judgment was set aside and Karen’s clients were awarded judgment and costs. Trial Decision set aside on appeal.
